The ultimate chicken finger?…I know what you’re all thinking…”How good can a chicken finger be? Honestly?” Chicken, breaded, fried n served with a staple children’s sauce: ranch, BBQ or maybe ketchup. How can this classic children’s menu item bring such thunder?!

Jill’s dad let her choose a desired birthday lunch. No surprise, she chose The Village Tavern and Grill. The Village, as its known by locals, is a Schaumburg institution. Serving regulars for decades but also welcome to new guests alike, Village is a true suburban gem that MUST be experienced first hand to understand its allure. Jill raved about the joint for a month before our first trip and we’ve ventured back out to the west burbs numerous times solely for Village chicken fingers.

The Village Tavern (901 W. Wise Rd., Schaumburg) starts with super fresh chicken that arrives daily from an undisclosed source. They must marinate the birds in buttermilk for at least 24 hours because the meat has a slightly creamy, juicy, and insanely tender texture – is this really just chicken?!

The thick cut strips are generously coated in a thicker tempura style batter that creates a thin doughy layer that’s unique to the Village. Perfectly fried every time, the chicken is as moist as any bird I’ve tasted anywhere – really. The perfect bite isn’t complete, though, until you’ve dipped a strip into their homemade honey mustard sauce – bear in mind, this is not your typical version of the popular chicken condiment. Theirs is creamier, thicker and richer than others. It clings to the chicken with ease and basically completes the plate. Even as I reread my entry I must stress how you have to TASTE these lil nuggets of goodness to understand the root of my passion.

Now chicken fingers aren’t the ONLY item you should order at Village. The nachos are also something special. Layered high with tons of traditional fixins, it is possibly the best supreme style nachos I have tasted. They take the time and care to prepare their nachos with cheese and toppings in every layer of the massive creation. You can see from the pic the size. Luckily, they do offer a half order if you’d like to save a lil room for dessert….something I’ve admittedly never been able to do.

Please trust me and make the trip out west for some grub and maybe a movie. I promise you will return.
